Monkey Bread
Sally's Baking Addiction
Dough
- 1 1/8 tsp yeast
- 2 tbsp warm water
- 3 tbsp melted butter
- 10 tbsp milk
- 1/4 c sugar
- 1 egg
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 2 1/2 c flour
Proof yeast in warm water with a sprinkle of sugar. Melt butter in saucepan and add milk; heat just a little until warm. Pour in mixing bowl. Add remaining ingredients. Beat until dough comes together. Dough should be a little stickier than normal. Resist the urge to add more flour. Place in well greased bowl and refrigerate overnight.
Melt 6 tbs. butter in a small bowl. In another bowl, mix together 1/2 c. sugar and 1 heaping tablespoon of cinnamon. Take dough out of refrigerator. Roll into about 20-25 balls. Dip in melted butter, then coat heavily in cinnamon sugar. Place in greased 8 inch cake pan. Cover and let rise in warm place for 1 hour. After the hour is up, melt 1/4 c. butter in small saucepan. Whisk in 1/2 c. brown sugar until bubbly. Add a dash of vanilla. Gently pour over top and in cracks of dough. Bake at 350 for 30-40 minutes, placing foil on top halfway through.
