General Tso's Sauce
- 1/2 onion
- 2 garlic cloves
- 1/4 tsp ginger powder
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 1/4 c apricot preserves
- 1 tbsp hoisin sauce
- 1 tbsp chicken stock
- 1/2 tbsp honey
- 1/2 tbsp dark soy sauce
- 1/2 tbsp ketchup
- 1/2 tbsp Shaoxing Wine
- 1/2 tsp chili sauce
- 1/8 tsp sesame oil
Finely chop the onion and mince the garlic.
Over medium heat, pour a little oil into a sauce pan, and then add the onion. Cook until the onion turns somewhat translucent, then add garlic, ginger powder, and sugar. Just when the sugar starts caramelizing. Be careful not to burn the sugar or the garlic. Then add the rest of the ingredients and heat to a low boil. Reduce the sauce until it's the desired thickness. You don't need to use cornstarch.
