Flour Frosting

  • 4 1/2 tbsp all purpose flour
  • 1 c whole milk
  • 1 c granulated sugar
  • 1/2 c softened butter
  • 1/2 c shortening
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

In a small saucepan, whisk together flour, milk and sugar. Bring mixture to a boil. Cook and stir until thickened like pudding. Transfer to a glass bowl. Place in the freezer to cool (about 45 minutes). When flour mixture is cooled, cream together butter and shortening until fluffy. Add in flour mixture and whip for several minutes until completely smooth. Add in extract at the end.
