Chocolate Coffee Cake

Cake

  • 1 1/2 c Flour
  • 1/2 c Sugar
  • 2 1/2 tsp Baking powder
  • 3/4 tsp Salt
  • 1/4 c Oil
  • 3/4 c Milk
  • 1 Egg

Filling

  • 1/3 c Sugar
  • 2 tbsp Cocoa powder
  • 1/4 c Chocolate chips

Crumbs

  • 45 g Flour
  • 38 g Sugar
  • 8 g Cocoa powder
  • 7 g Powdered sugar
  • 1/8 tsp Salt
  • 43 g Butter, softened
  • 1/2 tsp Vanilla

Preheat oven to 350.

In a small bowl, make the filling. Mix together the sugar and cocoa. Set aside. 

In another small bowl, make the chocolate crumbs. Whisk together dry ingredients. Drizzle vanilla over the top. Work in butter and vanilla with your fingers until evenly distributed. Set aside. 

Make the cake batter. Whisk together dry ingredients and wet ingredients separately. Stir together and mix just until combined. 

Pour half the batter into a greased 8 inch round or square cake pan. Sprinkle filling evenly over batter and press in slightly. Sprinkle chocolate chips evenly on the top. Pour the remaining batter over the top and sprinkle with the chocolate crumbs. 

Bake for 20 minutes or just until toothpick stuck in the center comes out clean.
